The Peridot gem is said to host magical powers and healing properties to bring the wearer power, influence, and a wonderful year. As peridot is a gemstone that forms deep inside the Earth and brought to the surface by volcanoes, in Hawaii, peridot symbolizes the tears of Pele, the goddess of fire and volcanoes. You have only to examine a veriegated leaf to know the beauty that can be found in the color green
To find that beauty in the pedals of a flower is a little unexpected.
My challenge was to match the glow of the Peridot for the month of August.
Through careful layering of transparent watercolor my painting of the Cymbidium Orchid glows
with the yellowish, olive and lime greens characteristic of the Peridot birthstone for August.
The original painting, "PERIDOT" image measures 8" x 10" with a three inch wide,
white beveled mat bring the overall size to 14" x 16".
